Import into Projects
Import copies content you already have into a project. Your originals are never changed: an import makes a copy in Xenith and nothing is written back unless you later turn on syncing for a Notion database.
Free
Import is free on every plan, with the same limits for everyone (listed below). The free plan includes one project, so on that plan you import into the project you have.
What you can import
| Source | What comes in | How you choose |
|---|---|---|
| Notion | Pages (with sub-pages) and databases, which become Xenith databases | Search what you have shared with Xenith |
| Google Docs | Documents, including their tabs, tables and images | Pick them in Google's own picker |
| Word files | .docx files | Upload them |
How an import works
- In Projects, choose Import (in the sidebar, or on the empty screen). If it isn't there, importing isn't switched on for your account yet.
- Choose a source. The first time, you connect the account. You can also connect Google Docs and Notion from the Connect your tools step in onboarding.
- Choose what to bring in.
- Choose where it goes: an existing project or a new one, inside a folder (named "Imported from Notion", "Imported from Google Docs" or "Imported from Word" unless you type another name).
- Review. Xenith reads what you chose and tells you what it will import and what it won't carry over. Nothing has been added to your projects yet. Choose Start import to go ahead, or Cancel import.
- Progress. Large imports take a few minutes because Notion and Google limit how fast they share content. Keep the tab open: if you close it, the import pauses where it is and continues when you come back (Projects shows a banner with Continue).
- Report. A plain summary of what was added, what was approximated, what was left out and what to do about anything that failed. See What carries over.
You can run one import at a time.
Importing again
Importing the same thing again into the same folder is safe: it updates pages you haven't edited and leaves your edits alone. See Re-importing.
Limits
These keep one import from overloading Xenith or the source. Anything over a limit is left out and listed in the report.
| Limit | |
|---|---|
| Pages in one import | 500 |
| Content blocks in one import | 25,000 |
| Databases in one import | 20 |
| Rows in one import | 10,000 |
| Pictures and files copied in one import | 250 MB in total, 25 MB each |
| Notion pages picked at once | 200 pages and 20 databases |
| Google Docs picked at once | 25 documents |
| Word files at once | 10 files, 25 MB each |
Across your account, you can have up to 50 databases, and one database holds up to 5,000 rows.
Pictures and files
Images and files in imported pages are copied into Xenith's storage so they keep working after the source link expires. They are stored under an unguessable address: anyone who has the exact link can view the file. They are removed when you delete your account; deleting a single page doesn't immediately delete its files. See Privacy and Data.
